"Its All About You"

How Nutrition Influences Every System in the Body

Presented by Kathy Westover, MA, MNT

A series of eleven free presentations explaining how nutrition influences each and every system in your body.  This series of presentations will give you the basics of how the systems of your body work and how they are influenced by nutrition so that you can begin to make lifestyle choices that will allow you to optimize your health.

This series of presentations will be like taking a mini physiology course (without all the test and studying).  If you have ever wondered about how your body works, then this series is for you.  To document your physiological mastery, a Certificate of Completion will be presented to all attendees that attend eight out of eleven of the classes.

Important Note: Due to the renovations at the Main Fort Collins Library starting in September of 2011, the last four sessions will be held at the Council Tree Library.

Session Eight: The Immune System – Winterize Your Body by Eating Immune Boosting Foods

All of the systems of your body work together to keep you healthy and fit, but if we had to designate one system that affects every aspect of bodily function more than others, it would be the Immune System. By eating immune system supporting foods you can keep both acute illness like colds and flu and chronic disease like diabetes and heart disease at bay.

Session Nine: The Urinary System – Keeping the Plumbing Working Well by Balancing Acid and Alkaline Foods

If you study the ins and outs of nutrition, even a little bit, you have certainly come across the debate over acid and alkaline levels in your body. We don’t often discuss the urinary system (at least not in polite company), but this system is where the acid/alkaline balance in your body is maintained. Come learn which foods can help prevent many health problems that are linked to over-acidity.

As you age, sex hormone production is altered and sometimes diminished in both men and women. Depending upon how well you make the transition into your new hormone state, determines your health and well being status as you journey through this stage of your life. This presentation will cover nutrition and lifestyle habits that can make this process go much smoother.

Everyone will agree that eating the “right” foods is good for your cardiovascular and respiratory health, but not everyone will agree on the list of foods that is “right”. This presentation will break some of the myths about which foods are best for cardiovascular health and provide solid scientific evidence for a new way to think about cardiovascular nutrition. Come be surprised by some of the foods that are actually good for your heart!
